Australia crush India to win second Test

Australia has rallied hard and evened out the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1-1 against India.

What did we learn from the second Test?

1. Adelaide Oval is the best stadium in the country to watch Test cricket and it’s become the destination Test of the summer.

I’m going to go as far as saying the Adelaide day-night Test is one of the top three sporting events in Australia; chuck the Ashes on top of that and you have one of the hottest events of the year, and don’t the people of Adelaide know it.

It was a sellout on both day one and two, and day three still had over 22,000 people attending, even though those fans knew the match would not last long and last long it did not.

So while the MCG has Boxing Day and the SCG has the New Year’s Test, Adelaide doesn’t need a date (or a public holiday) to bring in a crowd.

The oval has perfect mix of heritage and history combined with a revamped set-up meaning that whether you’re on the hill, or in the members out the back, the sheer perfection of the ground’s design will mean you’re having a good time. The experience is one to savour.

2. The pink ball Test is the best thing Cricket Australia has done to not just maximise attendance but the last session of a day-night Test brings the most excitement of the match as every moment has more tension under lights.

I believe Adelaide should have every day-night Test due to how well South Australia embraces, but even if Adelaide doesn’t get to keep it, I think the one thing Cricket Australia should change in the summer schedule is to be brave and go against what we have always done and play more than one pink ball Test a year.

3. Travis Head is our best and most reliable player at the moment in all forms of cricket. It seems when he plays well the team wins.

In fact after every one of his centuries in Test cricket, Australia has gone on to win the match. This match was no different and even though Mitchell Starc was brilliant with an eight-wicket haul, Head was the well-deserved player of the match. It seems he is able to rise to any occasion without being overwhelmed by the situation.

4. There was one guy that didn’t appreciate Heads’ great knock of 140 – and that was Mohammed Siraj.

After being hit around the ground all day by Head, he gave him an all mighty send off and has since been widely criticism for the poor behaviour.

But why?

Most people are looking at it like it’s disrespectful, but I see it differently. I see it as a player utterly fed up and frustrated with the brilliance of a player and letting out that frustration.

A send off to the number 10 batter is lame, but to the current best player in the Aussie team I see it as a compliment rather than disrespectful.

While I understand sporting bodies are forever trying to minimise this type of behaviour, so kids don’t follow suit, in terms of the disrespect, it’s a non-news story for me. It’s heart on the sleeve stuff from both players.
