While the seat of a major party leader would usually be seen as a safe seat, Labor is optimistic it could claim a huge scalp in the seat of Dickson by ousting opposition leader Peter Dutton.

Dickson has been held by the Liberal party and Mr Dutton since 2001 but has been won with a margin of less than five per cent in four of the last six elections.

This included the 2007 election, where Mr Dutton won the seat by a razor-thin 0.1 per cent margin.

The seat is situated in Brisbane’s outer northern suburbs and includes parts of Brisbane City Council and parts of the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Coming into 2025, Dickson is Queensland’s most marginal electorate and once again the topic of murmurings from the Labor camp that it could be in play.

    2025 Federal Election

Mr Dutton has had an obviously large presence on the national campaign and is vying to be the country’s 32nd Prime Minister come May 4.

Despite his busy schedule, Mr Dutton has visited his seat a number of times, including over Easter. He was criticised however for heading to Sydney for a fundraising dinner in the days leading up to when Cyclone Alfred was expected to make landfall.

Labor candidate Ali France is no stranger to running for the seat of Dickson, the 2025 is her third attempt at the seat she first contested in 2019.

Ms France is a former journalist and is a disability advocate and world champion para-athlete after she was hit by a car in 2011, causing her to have to amputate one of her legs above the knee.
