Pauline Hanson has confirmed she plans to convince former Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce to jump ship to One Nation as the right-wing party’s popularity steadily rises.

On Monday, a Redbridge poll fond One Nation’s primary vote had bumped up 4 points to a poll-record high of 18 per cent, while the Coalition’s hit a record low of 24 per cent.

After stripping out the Liberals, the poll found the Nationals’ primary vote sat at about 4 per cent.

Speaking to ABC on Tuesday morning, Senator Hanson said One Nation was gathering “more and more support” because of its “clear-cut policies”.

She hoped to “catch up” with Mr Joyce and “to cook him dinner” to facilitate a chat about his political future when she heads to Canberra next week.

“Well, I’m going to have a good talk with him about whether his prospects will be better with One Nation, because with the National Party on about 4 or 5 per cent (of the primary vote) at the moment, I think 18 per cent looks a lot more healthy to him,” Senator Hanson said.

“So anyway, we can forge ahead, because we’re on the same page as net zero, and working together, we can do a lot for the country.”

Asked whether she wanted Mr Joyce as part of her team, Senator Hanson said: “Of course, I want him on board. I won’t deny that, and I’ve said that all along.

“Of course, I want him on board. I think you have members of parliament or people with the invested interests of this country at heart, like Barnaby has. Of course, I want to work with those people, think it’s very important.”

In a statement last month, Mr Joyce said he would not recontest his seat of New England at the next election and would leave the Nationals at the end of his term – in 2028.

He said he was distancing himself from the National Party over a hard-line position on net zero and a “irreparably broken down” relationship with party leadership.
