Treasurer Jim Chalmers commits to leaving WA’s GST share untouched during Perth post-Budget visit
The Treasurer has given a firm commitment to maintaining WA’s current GST share, on his post-Budget trip to Perth.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has given a firm commitment to maintaining WA’s current GST share, saying it reflects the State’s massive contribution to the national economy.
The Labor frontbencher made the comments in Perth on Thursday on his post-Budget trip around the nation, ahead of the Productivity Commission handing down its latest recommendation on the carve-up later this year.
Major changes were made in 2018 and WA’s share currently has a 75 cent floor for every GST dollar raised in the State.

Dr Chalmers was asked if the current arrangement for WA was a fair share and responded: “Yes it is”.
“The Prime Minister and I are huge supporters of WA getting its fair share,” Dr Chalmers told reporters.
“We’ve made that very clear. WA makes a massive contribution to the national economy.
“And at every turn, my job has been to make sure that that contribution is recognised, including when it comes to making sure that WA gets a fair share of the GST.”
