‘People are under pressure’: Treasurer defends government assistance

“It is not the only way that people are receiving help,” Dr Chalmers told Sunrise.

“We have tax cuts, energy bill relief and the other way to helping people because we recognise that people are under pressure, that is still the case today even after this welcome news yesterday.

“So, cost of living is the major focus of the Albanese Labor government.”

Cost of living pressures won’t ‘disappear overnight’

Treasure Jim Chalmers says a rate will start to deliver “welcome” relief to millions of Australians but that the Government remains focused on the cost of living pressures which won’s “disapear overnight”.

“Yesterday’s decision from the independent Reserve Bank was a very welcome one for millions of Australians,” Dr Chalmers told Sunrise.

“It means that people will get the rate relief that they need and deserve.

“We know that it won’t (make) all of the cost of living pressures in our economy disappear overnight, but it will help and that is a good thing.”
