US President Donald Trump has threatened to declare a “National Emergency” after a Democratic mayor said law enforcement would no longer cooperate with ICE agents on illegal alien deportations.

Since reelection, Mr Trump has declared war on illegal immigration in the US, sending ICE agents to worksites, supermarkets and the streets to detain and deport those living in the United States illegally.

Large-scale ICE raids have taken place in Los Angeles, Georgia and Arizona, with smaller raids taking place across the United States.

In recent weeks, the Trump Administration cracked down on crime in Washington, DC, with the US President making an emergency declaration, giving him more power.

In the Capital, the Federal Government took over Washington DC’s police department and sent in National Guard troops and Federal law enforcement.

Under those emergency powers, Mr Trump was able to use the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to assist with ICE raids and operations.

Now that those powers have expired, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has told Mr Trump, “immigration enforcement is not what MPD does”.

“The President didn’t try to move a new emergency, and the Congress is not moving to extend the emergency, which they have every power to do,” Ms Bowser said last week.

“Immigration enforcement is not what MPD does, and with the end of the emergency, it won’t be what MPD does.”

The comments, made on Wednesday, appear to have just travelled to the US President, evoking a furious response.

“Radical Left Democrats, Mayor Muriel Bowser, who has presided over this violent criminal takeover of our Capital for years, has informed the Federal Government that the Metropolitan Police Department will no longer cooperate with ICE in removing and relocating dangerous illegal aliens,” Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“If I allowed this to happen, CRIME would come roaring back.

“To the people and businesses of Washington, D.C., DON’T WORRY, I AM WITH YOU, AND WON’T ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN.

“I’ll call a National Emergency, and Federalize, if necessary!!!”

Mr Trump said that when he took office, he “stepped into the complete criminal mess”.

He said now, after his crackdown on crime, there is “virtually NO CRIME” and that the city is “absolutely booming” with restaurants and business “packed” for the first time in “decades”.
