Donald Trump has been roasted online after appearing to photobomb Spain’s World Cup trophy celebrations, awkwardly lingering on stage as the team prepared to lift the cup.
The US President attended Spain’s 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in New Jersey on Monday (AEST), watching the match from a secure luxury suite before joining FIFA president Gianni Infantino on the pitch for the post-match ceremony.
After helping present medals to both teams, Mr Trump remained front and centre as Spain’s players gathered for the iconic trophy lift, with the moment typically reserved solely for the winning team.

The awkward scenes quickly went viral, with social media users piling on and turning the moment into memes.
Others online made fun of Mr Trump, with many questioning why he remained on stage during the team’s celebration.
“He’s the laughing stock of the world now surely,” one TikTok user wrote.
The moment was made more pointed given Mr Trump’s recent criticism of Spain. Earlier this month, he labelled the country “hopeless” and said he didn’t want “anything to do with Spain” during a NATO summit.
Despite that, he appeared in high spirits on the field, even as sections of the crowd booed when he and Infantino walked out for the ceremony.
Mr Trump’s arrival at the stadium was equally eye-catching, with the US President flying in by helicopter. A video shared by his daughter Ivanka showed him taking in the aerial view ahead of kickoff.
