Israel-Iran ceasefire: Vance learns of Trump’s truce agreement live on TV, says President hit ‘reset button’

US Vice President JD Vance was speaking live on Fox News when US President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran, saying the President has “hit the reset button” to bring peace to the Middle East.
Mr Trump took to Truth Social, saying: “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the war will be considered, ENDED!”
Reacting in real time while speaking to Bret Baier on Fox News, the US VP said: “We were actually working on that just as I left the white house.”

Mr Vance said what Mr Trump’s announcement meant was “quite simple”, that peace in the Middle East will be thanks to the United States.
“The president, without - knock on wood - having a single American casualty, obliterated the Iranian nuclear program,” Mr Vance told Fox News.
“A week ago, Iran was very close to having a nuclear weapon. Now, Iran is incapable of building a nuclear weapon with the equipment they have because we destroyed it.
“While we have obliterated the Iranian nuclear program, our hope and our expectation is that they’re not going to try and rebuild that program.”
Mr Vance said Mr Trump is trying to build a “long-term settlement” that brings peace to the Middle East.
He said Mr Trump has been “working the phones constantly” to create a world where Iran cannot build a nuclear weapon.
“The President really hit the reset button and said, ‘Look, let’s actually produce long-term peace for the region’,” Mr Vance said.
“Tomorrow really is a new day — the end of the 12 Day War, the end of the Iranian nuclear program, and I really do believe the beginning of something very big for peace in the Middle East.”
Mr Vance wouldn’t be drawn on endorsing a change to the Iranian regime, saying: “If the Iranian people want to do something about their own leadership, that’s up to the Iranian people.
“We really think that if the Iranians are smart about the way forward, the could be a new dawn of an economic age of prosperity.”
