President Donald Trump takes hot lap at Daytona 500 in Florida

US President Donald Trump has again made history, this time, taking a hot lap in his heavily armoured presidential limo at the NASCAR Daytona 500 in Florida.
As rainy conditions threatened to dampen spirits at the event, onlookers cheered as the Republican overshadowed concerns at Daytona Internation Speedway, Daytona Beach.
Arriving on Air Force One, Mr Trump’s plane completed a flyover of the event before the US president landed and arrived in style, completing a lap of the iconic track.

Mr Trump attended the race alongside his young granddaughter Carolina.
Speaking to drivers ahead of the race, Mr Trump referred to himself as the drivers’ “favourite president”.
“I’m a big fan. I am a really big fan of you people,” Mr Trump said.
“How you do this I don’t know, but I just want you to be safe.
“You’re talented people and you’re great people and great Americans. Have a good day, have a lot of fun and I’ll see you later.”
The race commenced after Mr Trump’s historic arrival before rains forced the caution flag to be waived and the event was paused after just 11 laps.
