A Brazilian social media influencer has died after falling from a high-rise apartment, with local police now investigating whether her husband played a role in the tragic incident.

Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva, 25, was found dead outside a 10th-floor apartment in San Paulo on November 29 after neighbours reported hearing loud screams, followed by a bang.

Emergency services were called to the scene where the young woman was discovered in the arms of her husband, Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Da Silva grew up in a rural district of Crateus, in north-eastern Brazil, before relocating to San Paulo where she later met and married dos Santos.

Investigators have since reviewed security camera footage from inside the apartment complex, which reportedly shows Silva and her husband involved in a physical altercation in the carpark before they continued the argument inside an elevator.

Police are examining the footage as part of their inquiry into whether the fall was accidental or the result of violence.

Footage allegedly shows Santos reaching toward Silva’s neck and pulling her from the elevator before he later re-enters alone and appears visibly distessed, sitting with his head in his hands.

Santos has not publicly commented on the allegations with media reporting he has not responded to requests for comments.

In the days following Silva’s death, Santos attended her wake and burial in her hometown, Ceara, with images circulating online showing him embracing the coffin.

As tributes poured in online, a family member shared a heartbreaking message, describing the tragedy as a case of love turning into control.

“She can no longer speak because her voice was silenced by a man who claimed to love her,” her aunt wrote, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo.

Local authorities have confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious, with investigators examining CCTV footage, phone records and witness statements from nearby residents.

Silva had amassed more than 6,000 followers on Instagram, where she shared beauty tips, makeup tutorials and glimpses into her daily life.

Police have not laid any charges and the investigation remains ongoing.
