Girl, 12, fighting for life after getting electric shock after climbing power pylon for social media photos

A girl has suffered severe burns after climbing an electricity pylon to take photos for social media and being struck by a powerful electric shock.

The 12-year-old girl was left hanging from the tower after coming into contact with power lines in Navahermosa in central Spain.

The terrifying incident happened about 6.46pm on Monday.

The girl had climbed the pylon to capture images for social media when she was electrocuted, according to Spanish media.

She was left dangling from the structure and had to be rescued by firefighters from Talavera de la Reina.

Firefighters first shut off the electricity and confirmed the installation had been turned off before climbing the tower to reach her.

They then rescued the girl and lowered her using an aerial ladder platform.

She was treated by an emergency doctor before being taken to La Paz University Hospital in Madrid with severe burns. She remains in a serious condition.

The massive emergency response also involved Guardia Civil officers, two ambulances, a medical helicopter and Navahermosa Civil Protection volunteers.

The Toledo Provincial Fire and Rescue Service has since issued a blunt warning over the risks of climbing electrical infrastructure to take photos or videos.

“A photo is not worth your life,” firefighters warned.

They said electrical installations could cause a potentially fatal electric shock or electrical arc even without someone directly touching a live conductor.

“No photo, video or post is worth taking this risk,” the firefighters said, warning young people to never climb poles, towers or electrical installations.

The official Castilla-La Mancha emergency service confirmed the girl had suffered severe burns after climbing the electricity tower and was taken to La Paz hospital.

Spanish reports said the girl had climbed the tower to create content for social media.
