But Apple is not slowing down. Enter the iPhone 16e, a budget-friendly addition to the current lineup.

Which means the iPhone SE and it’s home button are officially gone.

So what is new, what is missing, and is this the best iPhone deal we’ve seen in years?

Let us break it down.

Big features, smaller Price

It’s clear Apple is targeting the mid-tier market where phones are usually priced between $700 and $1100. The iPhone 16e will cost you $999 making it their most budget-friendly new smartphone.

A18 chip & Apple Intelligence

It is the same powerful chip found in the iPhone 16 making it super fast and future-proof. There is also Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji, Clean Up for photos, and a smarter Siri.

Biggest battery ever in a 6.1-inch iPhone

The battery life gets a huge boost, lasting up to 12 hours longer than older models.

48MP camera with 2x optical zoom

There is only one camera but it is doing double duty with a telephoto lens for better zooming.

Action button

While the camera control button is missing you do get an action button which lets you customise quick actions like opening the camera or flashlight.

USB-C charging

No more lightning cables as Apple has fully transitioned to USB-C for all iPhones.

What’s the catch?

While the iPhone 16e is loaded with premium features, there are a few trade-offs compared to the more expensive iPhones.

That includes no always-on display, a single camera, and a matte glass back and aluminium frame, whereas the Pro models use titanium.

Who is this for?

People upgrading from older iPhones (11, 12, SE) and who want Apple’s latest tech at a lower price and the same AI smarts and chip as pricier models. Also casual users who don’t need pro camera features.

When can you buy one?

Pre-orders start February 22, with availability from February 28. Is it worth the upgrade? If you’re on an older iPhone and want a fresh start, this could be the perfect time to jump in.
