AFL cult hero Gary Moorcroft set for facial surgery after accident at home

AFL cult hero Gary Moorcroft is set to undergo facial surgery after an accident while doing some home renovations.
The 2001 mark of the year winner posted disconcerting photos of his face and stills from imaging of his skull that show a massive crack in his left cheekbone.
Sharing the news on social media, Moorcroft assured everyone he was in good care.

“Had a fall doing some renovations at home.
“Fell through the flooring insulation and went cheekbone first into the timber joist.
“Unfortunately I came off second best. Three fractures and a depressed cheekbone.
“Surgery booked to have three plates and screws put in.
“Thank you to Belinda and my two perfect kids and their partners for looking after me.”

Moorcroft kicked 102 goals in 95 games for Essendon between 1995 and 2002 before playing an extra three at Melbourne in 2003.
The small forward kicked one goal in the Bombers’ 2000 premiership side, but is most famous the acrobatic screamer he took in 2001 that many have dubbed the mark of the century.
Moorcroft climbed on the shoulders of Western Bulldogs great Brad Johnson and came down with a thud after hanging onto the speccy.
The 49-year-old had a decorated local footy career post-AFL retirement and, as recently as last year, was still playing in a game with Thorpdale.
He kicked over 1200 goals and played in excess of 300 games of local footy across several clubs, most notably with Bundoora in the Northern Football Netball League.
The high-flyer continued to take freakish marks at the lower level as well, including a locally-famous one in an elimination final against Northcote Park in 2016.
