AFL: Is today the day we see West Coast make a move?

The Eagles continue to scope out the possibility of bringing in Jack Viney or Gryan Miers to add experience to their young list, while the Dockers are assessing their options after on Tuesday finding a landing spot for Nathan O’Driscoll.

Cornes things O’Driscoll could be a steal

The Fremantle winger was traded for pick No.61 to join Richmond on a three-year deal after playing 17 games for the minor premiers this year.

Channel Seven analyst Kane Cornes thinks the 24-year-old could be the steal of the draft.

“Nathan O’Driscoll would be a top 12 player at Port Adelaide. What are these other teams doing? Richmond just got him for nothing. He is a good footballer, has a real crack. Could be the trade of the Trade Period.”

Lions play hardball over their own Marshall

Premiership midfielder Sam Marshall is firmly in the Saints’ sights, having requested a trade after just two games this season.

Taken at pick No.25 in the 2024 draft the Lions say he is still a highly valued player.

“With two years of growth and development ... I certainly don’t see how there’s an argument that he’s lost value in the draft. He is on track to be a really good player,” list boss Dom Ambrogio told AFL Trade Radio.

“He arrived at a time when we we’re not in a position to put games into young players.

“We will look to maximise the value we can get.”

Marshall in limbo

Will we see a repeat of last year’s saga for Rowan Marshall?

There had been increased confidence that the Saints ruckman would find his way out of the club this trade period after his failed attempt last year.

But Geelong’s interest in Nick Blakey, who is now considered somewhat gettable out of the Swans, is complicating matters for the Cats.

Marshall didn’t attend the Saints’ best-and-fairest awards on Monday night in what many viewed as a statement of intent.

Full Broad story

They were certainly some eye-catching comments from Nathan Broad this morning, with the retired defender confirming beyond doubt that he’d be keen to play for West Coast next season.

“If I was going to come back and play for ‘Mini’… I feel a million bucks. I feel great,” Broad said on SEN.

“It’s the best I’ve felt in a while. My actual performance stuff I think would be fine.”

Broad acknowledged “there could be a slim chance” of being at McQualter’s Eagles next season and said he had “been training, keeping fit”.

Coaching move

Ben Hart is back at Collingwood, with the GWS assistant shifting back to the club where he was a part of the staff between 2012 and 2016.

The Pies have alos announced former Freo assistant Matthew Boyd will shift from an assistant’s role to head of development.

Broad makes his case

After his exit at Richmond to move back to WA, Nathan Broad has made his strongest case yet for a shot at continuing his career in the west with the Eagles.

“I feel a million bucks - it’s the best I’ve felt in a while,” he said on SEN this morning.

“I’d be taking minimum wage so I’d cost the club nothing and I’ve still got a lot to offer.”

Coniglio re-signs

The player development to kick us off today is the re-signing of Stephen Coniglio, who will be the last remaining original Giant at GWS.

The WA product is set to lock in a one-year deal to add to his 248 games in orange.

GWS’ two most-capped players could both be away from the club next year, with Toby Greene set to play for Geelong and Lachie Whitfield exploring a trade.
