Lions play hardball over Coleman

The highly talented but injury-prone Lion wants a fresh start after missing out on Brisbane’s three-peat despite starring in the 2023 loss.

The Bombers had reportedly put forward pick 27 and a future third, which the Lions have rejected as they eye pick No.17.

Given his injury history, Coleman is a risky prospect regardless, and it remains to be seen if Essendon will take that leap.

What can unlock Eagles/Demon deals?

Despite Viney and Rivers both being from Melbourne and under the same management, the Eagles have been keen to keep the deals separate.

Given Viney’s age and the fact he played just one game this season, a late rounder should settle it, but progress has been incredibly slow.

Pick No.23 seems to be the obvious target for Rivers, but that would leave the Eagles with picks 3 and 45 and nothing in between.

West Coast seem unlikely to leave that gap, and there are reports they are trying to find picks from other clubs to find an alternative solution.

Who’s left on the table?

With Nick Blakey and Lachie Whitfield going through yesterday, the blockbuster moves have largely been settled for this year.

But there is still plenty of work to be done.

West Coast are still working to secure Trent Rivers and Jack Viney, while Keidean Coleman wants to get to Essendon.

Fellow Lion Will McLachlan wants to get to Melbourne, but Brisbane have knocked back the Demons’ initial bid.

After getting Blakey can the Roos still find the capital to get Nick Murray through the door?

There are murmurs around Geelong pair Gryan Miers and Sam De Koning while Port Adelaide’s deal for pick No.5 could be settled.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the final day of the 2026 AFL trade period.

All 18 clubs will be at Marvel Stadium as they look to push through their final deals before the window closes at 5:30pm AWST.

To add to the drama there is an embergo on trades until 11am but that doesn’t mean clubs won’t be working to secure deals ahead of time.

We’ll bring you all the action as it comes.
