DONE DEAL: BOMBERS, DEMONS PICK SWAP

Melbourne have wasted no time getting busy on Monday morning, completing their second deal of the day.

The Dees bring in pick nine from Essendon, as well as a future third-round pick, in exchange for picks 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65, and a future first-rounder.

It gives Melbourne two selections inside the top 10 at this year’s draft as it stands: Pick 5 and pick 9.

Baker a man in demand

Here’s the wrap from our reporter Mitchell Woodcock on Joe Brierty’s conversation on Trade Radio, confirming the Dockers are in a position to swoop on Liam Baker if a potential Eagles deal can’t be reached.

Freo update

Has Friday’s Hawks-Blues pick swap helped the prospect of Liam Baker being in purple next year?

Fremantle’s football boss Joe Brierty has given an update on all things Dockers on Trade Radio:

  • Says Freo have been ‘proactive’ in examining the prospect of Liam Baker getting to the club, despite the premiership Tiger having West Coast as his preference for a WA landing spot
  • Offer for Shai Bolton is ‘really strong’, with the two Tigers Freo’s priority over the coming days
  • Andrew Brayshaw’s long-term extension likely to be finalised in the coming months
  • Veteran duo Nat Fyfe and Michael Walters remain a key part of the club’s planning for next year, with Fyfe comfortable with the prospect of being a regular substitute if required

Will the Eagles split pick three?

West Coast are obviously keen on getting as much young talent through the door as possible as they lean into their rebuild, so splitting their top draft selection of pick three into two picks lower down the order is a thought worth consideration.

And ICYMI, AFL draft guru Kevin ‘Shifter’ Sheehan has had his say on the merits of executing that move after examining this year’s draft class...

KEY BLUE RE-SIGNS

While the trading action gets set to get rolling, Carlton have locked down a significant piece of their future.

Jacob Weitering will be a Blue for at least the next seven - yes, seven - seasons, after inking a six-year contract extension on top of the year he had remaining on an existing deal.

“Carlton made a significant investment in me in 2015, and I couldn’t imagine playing football anywhere else,” Weitering said.

“I have always wanted to be a one-club player, and I feel like I have grown up alongside my teammates in my nine years here.”

Weitering became an All-Australian for the first time this year after a stellar campaign. He turns 27 next month.

DONE DEAL: CROWS, DEMONS PICK SWAP

We’ve got a pick swap!

Adelaide have given up pick 46 for a future third-round selection from the Dees.

It appears to be a move that paves the way for a larger pick swap between Melbourne and Essendon to set the table for more action across the coming days, with the Bombers’ pick nine reportedly up for grabs.
