AFL’s Thursday night match-ups for the 2025 fixture confirmed
The AFL has confirmed all the 23 match-ups that will feature on Thursday night in 2025.
For the first time, Thursday night games will be played in each of the first 16 weeks of the season (Opening Round, Rounds 1 through to 15), as well as for a further seven rounds in the second half of the floating fixture.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.Fifteen of the 18 clubs will play in a Thursday night fixture in the first 16 weeks, kicking off with the Opening Round match-up between the Brisbane Lions and Geelong before the traditional clash between Carlton and Richmond at the MCG in Round 1.
Round 2 will feature Carlton v Hawthorn at the MCG followed Essendon v Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium in Round 3.
Across the first 16 weeks, Essendon will play in four Thursday night match-ups, while Carlton, Hawthorn, Collingwood, Geelong, the Brisbane Lions and the Western Bulldogs will play in three.
Marvel Stadium and the MCG will host four matches, with the Gabba set for three Thursday night match-ups, Optus Stadium to host two and the Adelaide Oval one.
All the games will be live and free on Seven and 7plus and AFL CEO Andrew Dillon was thrilled the league was able to increase the number of Thursday night football matches next year.
“There has been a strong desire from fans and our broadcast partners for more Thursday night football and we are excited to be able to deliver in spades next season,” Dillon said.
“Fans will be able to take in a total of 23 games of Thursday night football next season, which is more than there has ever been.”
