Urgent warning to all footy fans, as the AFL season kicks off, Australia’s top banks are sounding the alarm on ticket scammers.

Sydney’s hopes of retaining Chad Warner amid significant interest from WA clubs have been boosted, with the Swans locking in the star midfielder’s brother Corey on a two-year contract extension.

The younger Warner, aged 21, will remain at the NSW club until at least the end of 2027 with the fresh deal.

It’s a move that will not hurt the chances of the Swans keeping a hold of his All-Australian older brother as he weighs up his future, with both West Coast and Fremantle poised to make a big play to bring the star midfielder back to WA when his contract expires at season’s end.

Corey Warner, who has played nine AFL games, said he was “thankful” new Sydney coach Dean Cox and the club had shown faith in him.

“It’s huge. I’ve been at the club for a few years now so to continue here, it’s definitely a privilege,” Warner said.

“Coxy has been really good. He’s always backing me in, always pushing me to take on the game, and I’ve felt confident off the back of that.

“My forward role is quite team-based so to continue to do that will stand me in good stead.”

Chad Warner’s future looms as one of the biggest storylines of the AFL season. The 23-year-old admitted last month his future was “up in the air” and that he was “very open to everything” in the wake of conversations with both the Eagles and Dockers last year.

The Warner brothers have been part of the same squad for the past three years after Corey was drafted with pick 40 in 2021.

Swans football manager Leon Cameron said Corey, an East Fremantle product like his brother, had enjoyed a “fantastic” pre-season as he looks to cement a spot at AFL level.

“His VFL form as been strong in the last couple of years and we feel as though he’s ready to take the next step at AFL level,” Cameron said.

“He is an extremely hard-working player and a popular member of the playing group, so we are thrilled he’s committed to the next couple of seasons.”

Warner is in the frame to feature in Friday’s season opener for last year’s beaten grand finalists against Hawthorn as they look to overcome the absence of Errol Gulden and Callum Mills.
