Fremantle has fallen to defeat in Sydney as the Swans completed the double over the men in purple in an intense clash at the SCG.

James Jordon kept Caleb Serong to his worse effort of the season and despite huge last quarters from Andrew Brayshaw and Shai Bolton, the Dockers could not find a way to get past a determined Sydney.

It means Fremantle now sit outside the eight as finals near and they face Hawthorn and Collingwood in the next fortnight.

Recap all the action from our blog.

That’s all folks

Round 17 comes to a close for the WA clubs and it was two defeats for the first time in over six weeks.

West Coast were pounded by the Giants while Fremantle could not break their midfield malaise to get a win over the Swans.

We will be back next week as Freo tackle the Hawks in a blockbuster before West Coast face a wounded Port Adelaide in Adelaide.

Until then, farewell!

FULL match report

The Dockers trailled from start to finish and despite appearing likely to roll over the top in the last quarter as they did against the Saints, they couldn’t get the job done.

HERE is how the match played out.

Three-word analysis

It will be a tough result to swallow for Fremantle supporters as a six-gam win streak is broken and the Dockers remain outside of the top eight.

How would you sum it up, Fremantle fans?

Stats check

O’Driscoll led the way with an equal game-high 26 disposals to go with three tackles and three clearances.

Brayshaw had 24 disposals and four clearances.

Wagner had 22 disposals with six tackles.

Bolton ends with 17 and five clearances while Serong kicked a goal and had 11 disposals.

FULL TIME: Sydney 94, Fremantle 83

The Dockers take a body blow while the Swans somehow keep their season alive and do the double over the men in purple.

Frederick had a chance to cut the margin to single digits again but blazed away on the run and kicked the ball out on the full.

In the end, Fremantle’s inability to win the contest has cost them their place in the top eight.

Jordon had a clear victory over Serong and while Brayshaw had another massive final term it was not enough for the Dockers.

For the Swans, Amartey left the field in the dying moments with a potential groin injury.

Two-minute warning

McLean kicks a massive goal from the set shot, his third, and Fremantle have a large hill to climb now.

It was just three points to the Swans at Optus Stadium in round two so there is still a twist or two left here.

All of Freo’s guns are in the middle and Pearce goes forward.

One that got away

Reid is making plenty of teams regret not drafting him.

He picked up a missed handball on the wing but had nothing to go to.

Instead, he back tracked, turned the defender inside out and found a handball before running on and getting the feed back.

The young gun than dobbed a kick over the top to Dudley in space.

Dudley missed the shot but Reid created a chance from literally nothing.

One-point game!

As happened last week, the Dockers have saved their midfield best for the last term.

They lead centre clearances in this quarter three-zip and have now grabbed a goal off the back of it.

Fredericks completed the play to get the game back to a point.

Sydney’s season is over with a loss while the Dockers will lose their place in the top eight.

Stakes are huge!
