The AFL has launched it's 2025 season with a new advertisement celebrating the league's long history.

Fremantle’s clash with Geelong on Saturday will have longer breaks amid soaring temperatures.

The AFL has enacted its heat policy for all games in Victoria on Saturday, with the mercury set to reach 35 degrees in Geelong for the Dockers’ first game of the season.

The 1.20pm AEDT bouncedown (10.20am AWST) means the match will be played in the heat of the day.

Heat rules — which also include teams being able to use more water carriers during games — will also apply to Collingwood’s clash with Port Adelaide on Saturday night at the MCG and Western Bulldogs’ meeting with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium in the afternoon.

Dockers coach Justin Longmuir is confident his side is conditioned for the heat after a gruelling pre-season.

“I think we’re well conditioned for it,” he said.

“It’s been a pretty hot summer, trained in 35C plus, up around 40C days so we’re well conditioned for it.”

Fremantle has confirmed first-round draft pick Murphy Reid will debut.
