EVERY GOLD MEDAL FROM OVERNIGHT
It’s another long list of Aussie golds from Day 6:
There was an extraordinary tie that saw TWO Aussie gold medals handed out in the men’s 50m butterfly at the pool, with Kyle Chalmers and Ben Armbruster making history.
Meg Harris won the 50m freestyle dash, Sam Short saluted as expected in the 1500m freestyle, while Kai Taylor continued his rise with gold in the men’s 200m free.
Brittany Castelluzzo won the 200m butterful, Lakeisha Patterson took out the 100m freestyle S9, and our men’s and women’s 4x100m medley relay teams both saluted.
Away from the pool, there was gold for our 3x3 women basketballers and our 3x3 wheelchair men basketballers, and victory for Eileen Cikamatana in the women’s 86kg weightlifting.
A MASSIVE day to take Australia’s overall tally of gold medals to 47 - which is 33 more than the next-closest country in Canada!
Sophie Garbin continues dominant games
She has once again put the Diamonds in command with 24 goals at half-time as Australia lead 32-21.
AUSTRALIA CLAIM GOLD
It’s another Games Record in 3.28.71! And Australia make it 35 gold medals at Tollcross!
They were third heading into the butterfly but Matthew Temple hauled in South African great Chad Le Clos before Flynn Southam nailed the freestyle leg to finish well clear.
Le Clos become the most decorated Commonwealth athlete with 21 medals.
The previous record for Australian gold was 28 set in Gold Coast 2018.
Final event as the men take on 4x100 medley
England are the defending champions from Birmingham, so Australia would love to get this one back.
Golden girls get it done again!
Australia were third after the breaststroke leg behind Canada and Scotland, but Alex Perkins put in a mighty butterfly leg to give Meg Harris a 1.28-second lead.
Harris then flew home to set a new Games record and give Australia their 10th consecutive gold in this event.
Scotland came home in second ahead of South Africa to delight the home crowd.
“Any opportunity to stand up here with the girls is incredible,” WA’s own Iona Anderson says.
It’s been a brilliant debut games for her.
We’re down to the final two events from the pool in Glasgow
They’re both relays with the women’s 4x100 medley relay up first.
Australia qualified fastest and will be in lane four, with Scotland their closest challenger in lane five.
Australia have won every relay event so far.
Diamonds take early lead over South Africa
They lead 19-13 in their Pool A clash.
Both teams were undefeated heading into the contest.
Aussies just miss out in long jump
Chris Mitrevski finished fourth with a best jump of 8.02m 0.06m off bronze.
His foot just dragged on his final jump;
Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle claimed gold with 8.15m.
Bronze in women’s heptathlon
Tori West finished with a final points tally of 6,104 behind Northern Ireland’s Katherine O’Connor (6,569), who came away with gold, and England’s Jade O’Dowda (6,278).
Fellow Australian Mia Scerri was seventh with 5,996 points.
A great effort in one of the toughest events.
