AFL: Hawk Jack Ginnivan's low blows on Eagle Jack Graham.

Hawthorn forward Jack Ginnivan has been offered a $6520 fine after a replay spread on social media revealed him lashing out at Eagle Jack Graham with a kick to the groin at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Taken to ground while playing for a free kick during the opening term of West Coast’s 50-point loss to the Hawks, Ginnivan took exception to Graham rising to his feet over the smaller man.

As the former Tigers premiership player who made the move to Perth during the off-season got to his feet, the controversial forward kicked out with two low blows.

The first of which made contact with Graham’s groin, forcing the Eagle to jump into the air, before a second kick, which was accompanied by a few words, smacked into his ankle.

Graham did not show any ill effects, completing the match and collecting 14 disposals alongside three clearances.

The incident was graded intentional, low-impact body contact that will see the fine reduced to $3750 with an early plea.

Ginnivan kicked two goals for the match, having returned to the senior side after his patchy form saw him dropped to the VFL.

The Game AFL 2025

The kicks weren’t the only behaviour to draw the ire of Eagles fans with a bizarre goal celebration from the 22-year-old Hawk where he waved his fingers across his throat, also stirring the pot.

It only adds to the grudge between the two sides, which was already bubbling after Hawthorn poached the Eagles’ premiership defender Tom Barrass in 2024, and their coach Sam Mitchell was caught meeting co-captain Oscar Allen after the round three western derby to discuss a similar move.

The tension was clear to see in the post-match press conferences as well after Barrass, one of the game’s elite key defenders, was oddly moved to full forward in the last quarter to play against Allen, who had been moved into defence after being ‘managed’ out of West Coast’s Good Friday clash with Essendon.

While Eagles coach Andrew McQualter wouldn’t comment directly on his thoughts, his answers to questions about the move were frosty.

However, it was another road trip to forget for the Eagles as they remain winless from six attempts in 2025 and, despite showing significant improvement in the second half on Sunday, could not prevent the margin from ballooning to 50 points.
