STERN WORDS

A very honest Andrew McQualter has given West Coast a spray at quarter time.

The Ealges coach labelled their effort in the contest in the opening term as “pathetic” in a boundary-side chat with Fox Footy.

“We were pathetic in the contest, we’ve got to bounce back from that,” McQualter said.

“We’ve got an idea around the method they’ve got around the ball. We’re just collapsing on them and we’re not getting it done with the ball in our hands.

“We’ve got to improve in that space.”

QUARTER TIME

Carlton are all over West Coast at the first break at Optus Stadium.

The Blues lead by 39 points, with the Blues piling on 7.4 to the Eagles’ 1.1.

The visitors have recorded 24 inside 50s to the hosts’ 10.

Michael Voss’ men lead the disposal count 123-71, with George Hewett (12) and Patrick Cripps (10) the leading ball-winners.

Bailey Williams has the sole major for West Coast.

Lachie Fogarty has three, while Charlie Curnow, Mitch McGovern, Tom De Koning and Zac Williams have one each for Carlton.

AND another one.

Carlton have players out everywhere going inside 50, and it’s led to another too easy goal for the Blues.

That time it was Charlie Curnow, who snaps his first on the right boot.

Another one...

It wasn’t pretty but the Blues kick their sixth.

Tom McCarthy did all he could to stop Mitch McGovern but Lachie Fogarty was able to finish the job.

He soccered it through, albeit unconvincingly.

Blues get the next...

Carlton kick their fifth goal of the opening term off the boot of Zac Williams.

Late contact from Reuben Ginbey makes a simple set shot a certainty as the umpire walks the pair to the goal square.

Eagles hit back

Bailey Williams gets West Coast’s first goal after Carlton kicked the first four.

The Blues are dominating possesion, territory and pretty much everything else, but a strong lead from Williams delivers a slight reprieve.

Uh oh...

It’s alarm bells early for West Coast, who have already conceeded 12 inside 50s to just one.

Carlton are dominating every aspect of this game in the opening 10 minutes.

Blues strike first

Carlton star Tom De Koning give the Blues the first goal of the afternoon.

It came from a turnover deep in West Coast’s defence.

And we’re underway!

Reuben Ginbey has the early match-up on Carlton star Charlie Curnow.

It comes after Ginbey well-held Geelong spearhead Jeremy Cameron a couple of weeks ago, while Harry Edwards held Nick Larkey goalless in the loss to North Melbourne.

A big task for the young defender...
