Melbourne is targeting retired Adelaide champion Rory Sloane for a coaching role in 2025.

7NEWS understands the Demons have held multiple conversations with the former Crows midfielder to bolster their now depleted coaching panel.

And in a quirk, Sloane has turned to former Adelaide CEO Andrew Fagan to negotiate his next move.

Sloane has in recent times joined Fagan’s Dime Sports Group as an executive, a company that also represents Australian cricket star David Warner.

“Rory is exploring a few opportunities at present, some of which are in AFL coaching, others in the broader footy industry,” Fagan told 7NEWS on Monday.

Sloane played 255 games for the Crows and retired in April after further surgery to repair a detached eye retina.

Sloane and Demons coach Simon Goodwin are former teammates, with the pair spending two years together at Adelaide in 2009-10.

Andrew McQualter’s appointment as West Coast coach on Monday, as well as Greg Stafford’s departure from Melbourne last month, leaves the Demons without a midfield or forwards coach.

Former Crow Nathan Bassett has also been linked with a possible move to the Demons.

Also a former teammate of Goodwin, Bassett last coached in the AFL with Port Adelaide as an assistant from 2016-2023.
