Shai Bolton appears set to be given the green light to make his Fremantle debut in Sunday’s clash with Sydney, with the star recruit passing a crucial fitness test.

Coach Justin Longmuir said Bolton’s selection hinged on his training load on Thursday at Cockburn.

Bolton took part in the full session and looked untroubled by lower leg soreness - which kept him out of last weekend’s season opener - in match simulation.

Longmuir hinted Bolton would not get as much midfield time as he did in the pre-season and may instead be stationed more in the forward line.

“He needs to do a full main training and feel comfortable,” he said.

“There are positive signs. We will probably have to manipulate his role a bit compared to what we were doing in the pre-season and what we have planned.

“But if we think he’ll be right for four quarters we will get him into the team.”

Bolton’s selection for the game at one his favourite venues would be a boon for Fremantle with Sam Switkowski ruled out with groin soreness. Bolton averages 21.67 disposals, and 2.3 goals across nine games at Optus Stadium.

His 21 goals at Optus Stadium is the second most goals he’s kicked at a venue behind only the MCG.

Cooper Simpson also pressed his claims after avoiding a serious ankle injury playing for Peel last weekend although he was limited to light duties.

Longmuir said recruit Quinton Narkle would not be picked against the Swans.

“He’s had a really interrupted pre-season,” he said.

“He is building his footy and understanding our role in the system. “He has got a little bit of work to do but he is not far off.”
