Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki has revealed an Erebus Motorsport crew member was hospitalised while celebrating Sunday’s victory at Mount Panorama.

Kostecki and co-driver Todd Hazelwood won the Great Race for Erebus in the fastest Bathurst 1000 of all time, less than a year after a fallout between Kostecki and team owners threatened to derail the team.

But having put all that drama behind them, Erebus produced the perfect weekend to lift the Peter Brock Trophy after winning the top 10 shootout on Saturday — only to have it soured by an incident while celebrating.

Kostecki shared the bad news while speaking to Sunrise on Monday morning.

“It was a pretty good night with the team. Unfortunately, we had a bit of an incident with one of our crew members going into hospital, being attacked,” he said.

“But it was a great night for the team otherwise, and to get the win with my mate here, Todd, was awesome.”

Pressed on the details of the incident, Kostecki said: “One of our crew members was unfortunately attacked last night.

“It’s pretty disappointing and kind of put a spoil on the evening. So, we wish Sam all the best and hopefully he recovers fast, along with his partner, Tameika.”

In a statement provided to 7NEWS.com.au, NSW Police said: “Officers attached to Chifley Police District have commenced an investigation following an incident on William Street, Bathurst early this morning (Monday, October 14, 2024).

“Inquiries are continuing and there is no more information at this stage.”

Police also say from their early investigations, there may be a discrepancy between their version of events, and that of Kostecki’s.

Regardless, Erebus chief executive Barry Ryan said it was an awful shame that something happened on such a momentous day.

“I cannot believe there are people like this in the world,” Ryan told AutoAction.

“These young, innocent people were out celebrating a life achievement.”

Erebus have put forward a financial reward for information that could help the police investigation.

The fiery incident followed Kostecki, who is departing Erebus for Dick Johnson Racing at the end of the year, declaring time had helped heal the wounds from earlier this season.

“I think so. It’s one of those things,” he said on Sunday night.

The nature of the conflict between the driver and team is still unknown but the damage was significant.

As well as Kostecki missing the first two rounds, major sponsors Coca-Cola, Shaw and Partners, and Southern Cross Truck Rentals withdrew their support.

Kostecki has had rolling major sponsors since with Chiko coming on board for Bathurst.

“We’ve just won Bathurst. I just can’t thank all the crew enough, and we’ll celebrate tonight,” he said.

“I never doubted my ability. We’ve had some flashes of potential throughout the season, but we never had the pace to match these guys.

“I felt like the last three or four rounds, we’ve slowly been sort of chipping away and we’ve got the balance. I’m happy with the car again.”
