Cricket: Australia are set to take on Bangladesh in the first Test on these shores between the sides since 2003 — and they will come into the game at Darwin’s TIO Stadium as the firmest of favourites.
The scale of the challenge facing the tourists suffered a disastrous innings-and-53 run loss to a Cricket Australia XI rounded out by fringe State players last week.
Meanwhile, Australia’s selectors have resisted any urge to rest any of the country’s top talent, with a full-strength side named to take on the ICC’s No.9-ranked Test team.

Hello!
Taijul introduced and sent
Bangladesh’s all-time Test leading wicket-taker Taijul Islam started with a rank full toss Steve Smith was all too happy to send away for a one-bounce four.
And Beau Webster followed up with a crisp cover drive, which rocketed to the boundary.

Carey gone!
Australia have lost another wicket!
With the first ball after the resumption, Ebadot Hussain brought an inswinger back through Alex Carey’s gate - with the help of an inside edge - to send the wicketkeeper-batter on his way for 19.
Beau Webster is now walking to the crease to join Steve Smith, who looked to be struggling with the Darwin heat and humidity in the innings break.
AUS 5-129
Drinks on the field
We’ve now just about reached the halfway point of the day, with drinks coming onto TIO Stadium midway through the second session.
Australia are certainly in a more comfortable position than they were an hour ago, thanks to Steve Smith (37 not out) and Alex Carey (19 not out).

AUS 4-129
50-stand reached
Australia’s fifth-wicket partnership between Steve Smith (36 not out) and Alex Carey (17 not out) has now reached 50.
And the pair are well and truly beginning to go about their business with some class - you know Smith is on when he is nailing his cover drives, as he is starting to do.
After such a good start, Bangladesh will be desperate not to let go of the rope here.
AUS 4-126
Ton up
Australia would have preferred to have not lost four wickets on their way there, but a flowing Steve Smith cover drive has brought up Australia’s hundred.
The stroke might have been more off the edge than out of the middle, but he followed up with a much better effort.
AUS 4-106
Spin introduced
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has turned to one of his two spinners, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Like his fellow tweaker Taijul Islam, the right-arm off-spinner has more than 200 Test wickets to his credit - but they have mostly been harvested in home conditions.
Steve Smith, who is 17 not out, saw him out in that over without too much trouble.
AUS 4-98
Classy Carey
Alex Carey has seized on a rare poor ball from Taskin Ahmed, thumping a pull shot to the boundary.
The leader of Bangladesh’s attack looks like he is starting to tire after completing his 11th over - when will we see either of their spinners introduced?
AUS 4-90
Carey settling
Alex Carey is off the mark and beginning to settle into his work in Darwin, collecting a single for a crisp punch through the covers.
Having put his hand up to bat at No.5, the wicketkeeper-batter will be eager to make an impression here.
AUS 4-82
Smith cuts hard
In one of the first times Hasun Mahmud has offered width today, Steve Smith has been happy to accept it, cutting to the boundary to move to 11.
There was a minor mix-up later in the over, but Smith was able to make his ground after being sent back by Alex Carey.
How Bangladesh’s seamers fare in their third and fourth spells after being very impressive in their first and second will be a source of intrigue.
AUS 4-80
Tourists stay switched on
Bangladesh’s seamers have remained on the money at the start of the second session.
Taskin Ahmed did not offer a chance for Alex Carey to get off the mark in its second over.
AUS 4-76
