Big Bash League final recap: Perth Scorchers battle Sydney Sixers for sixth title

Most people who were sitting out in the uncovered sections of Optus Stadium seating have retreated to the terraces, with the rain light but persistent.

Tomorrow is the reserve day for the final, should it get COMPLETELY washed out today - but that’s highly unlikely to be the case.

We’ve got disconcerting news... the covers are coming on!

Moments after the bowlers marked out all their run-ups, the covers for both the pitch and wider square are now being wheeled out by ground staff.

It’s still a fairly light covering of clouds overhead, but there may be a little bit on the way here. Hopefully not enough to delay the toss in about half an hour’s time.

There’s been an interesting trend across the three BBL finals matches so far.

Three times the home side has been sent in, and all three times, they’ve been able to post a big enough total to carve out a win.

Every game bar one this BBL season has seen teams choose to field at the toss, and we’ll no doubt see the same again today. But is the value of runs on the board worth a little more in a big final?

Will we have any pesky interruptions? Let’s hope not...

There’s plenty of cloud cover over the stadium less than 90 minutes before the first ball. The forecast is for 1mm of rain across the afternoon and evening, so we’d be unlucky if there was anything more than one or two minor breaks (let’s hope).
