Big Bash League final recap: Perth Scorchers battle Sydney Sixers for sixth title

Cricket: The Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are the Big Bash’s titans and the pair clash again in what is set to be another classic finale.
The Scorchers got the job done in Tuesday’s Qualifier in Perth as they saw off a red-hot Steve Smith.
But after the men in magenta powered past reigning champions Hobart Hurricanes in Friday night’s Challenger, they bring good form back to Optus Stadium.
Stay up to date with our live blog, with play to begin at 4.15pm WA time.

Rain lingering
Most people who were sitting out in the uncovered sections of Optus Stadium seating have retreated to the terraces, with the rain light but persistent.
Tomorrow is the reserve day for the final, should it get COMPLETELY washed out today - but that’s highly unlikely to be the case.
Covers ON
We’ve got disconcerting news... the covers are coming on!
Moments after the bowlers marked out all their run-ups, the covers for both the pitch and wider square are now being wheeled out by ground staff.
It’s still a fairly light covering of clouds overhead, but there may be a little bit on the way here. Hopefully not enough to delay the toss in about half an hour’s time.
Finals form
There’s been an interesting trend across the three BBL finals matches so far.
Three times the home side has been sent in, and all three times, they’ve been able to post a big enough total to carve out a win.
Every game bar one this BBL season has seen teams choose to field at the toss, and we’ll no doubt see the same again today. But is the value of runs on the board worth a little more in a big final?
Weather update
Will we have any pesky interruptions? Let’s hope not...
There’s plenty of cloud cover over the stadium less than 90 minutes before the first ball. The forecast is for 1mm of rain across the afternoon and evening, so we’d be unlucky if there was anything more than one or two minor breaks (let’s hope).
Welcome
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the BBL final!
We’re set for a cracker at Optus Stadium, where the gates have just opened and the fans are streaming in.
We’ll be keeping you across all the action - and you can of course tune in to the screens of Seven to watch it too.
