Hour down

The South Africans have survived the first hour of the day.

The Aussies are going to have to work for their victory.

The Quicks have done much of the work so far and look good without getting the breakthrough.

Credit where it’s due

Markram and Mulder are doing well not to give things away here.

They realise they are the last two real hopes with Verreynne an attacking player by nature and Jansen a bash and crash bowling all-rounder.

If the home side are to be any chance of getting a draw these two need to bat until at least Tea.

But Cummins is finding some gremlins here.

The scramble

Cummins is using the scrambled seam to try and get some movement and the odd one is doing enough to beat the bat.

His lines are perfect and if he sticks there with the odd dart at the pads he will remove Mulder.

Reverse is back

Hazlewood has the ball going reverse again and it nearly gets Markram.

He leaves the ball and it swings back over the top of middle stump.

Very close.

Huge impacts

Smith being cleared of concussion for Australia is huge.

It means he will be available for the next Test with a concussion ruling players out for at least 10 days.

Half century

Markram gets the home side’s first half century of the match.

It’s taken 129 balls but he is holding his side together at the moment.

Lyon on

They gave Renshaw a few over to jag another wicket but it’s straight to the main man now in Nathan Lyon.

He will likely bowl for most of the day as the quicks rotate from the other end.

The pitch was rolled this morning and it’s keeping it nice and flat for now.

Tidy start

The ball is not reversing like it was late last night but the Australians have been tight.

South Africa are disiplined at the moment but the tourists know the longer they make them leave the more likely they are to be rash.

Here we go

Matt Renshaw starts the day and Steve Smith is at first slip!

“Looks good”

Mitchell Starc says Smith has come into the day feeling good but is unsure if he will play the rest of the match.
