The Ashes Recap: England rattle through Australia to claim ascendancy in Perth

Ben Stokes has turned to himself for his first spell of the innings as Green and Head start to find some flow.

Wood’s speed fell to 140km/h in his third over of his second spell and Green was able to punch a boundary down the ground.

If England snag another here they are well on top in this Test.

It’s the match-up that could define the Ashes and we got a brilliant taste of the battle on day one in Perth.

We have a long delay here after Green copped a brutal Wood short ball to the grill at 147.1km/h.

The big West Aussie was sent reeling and was lucky not to step on his stumps.

They take their time assessing Green but everyone looks confident he can continue.

Atkinson strayed down leg side but the ball stuck in the surface and Green caught the leading edge as he tried to turn the ball into the leg side.

It almost floated back to the bowler, so slowly in fact, Atkinson grassed a simple chance.

Cam Green brings a lot of extra height with him to the crease and it could be just what Australia need to counteract the bounce.

All of England’s quicks are getting great bounce, just ask Steve Smith’s elbow, forearm and hand.

However, with Green standing well over six foot tall, he can get on top of it.

He started with a perfect on-drive and this is as confident a start as he has put together at Test level.

If he can succeed here it might also open up the door for Beau Webster to return to the team as a tall batsman.

Khawaja has to go for just 2 after failing to deal with a Carse bouncer! The Aussies are in trouble here!

The opener had to wait a long time to come out to bat after he was off the field too long to start the innings and his jaunt at No.4 was agonising.

It’s brought to an end by a snorter that had him leaping and leaning as the ball grabbed the shoulder of the bat on the way to the keeper.

It’s history repeating itself in the Perth Test!

Smith edges one to Brook in the cordon, with Carse earning the scalp. A bit of bounce, Smith had to play at it, and couldn’t navigate it. He’s gone for 17!

It’s 3-30 and just like in last year’s series opener in WA, Australia have some real issues with the bat off the back of rolling their opponents on Day 1...

Marnus has to go for 9, with Archer doing the damage.

He attempts to leave one but it collects the bottom of his blade and clatters into the stumps. Labuschagne’s not happy but has to go, and it’s now Usman Khawaja at his unusual batting position of No.4 to help steady the ship at 2-28.

It’s slow going for the Aussies as the Smith examination continues. He’s banged-up but is sticking fat.
