The West Test day 4: Australia go 1-0 down after being embarrassed in Perth

Smith works a single off Sundar.
Head rock back and gets a single to deep point.
21st over - AUS 4/70
SHOT! Over-pitched and Head crashes one through the covers for four.
CLOSE! Tries to cut on too close to his body and is lucky not to edge.
A lovely drive would be four on almost any other ground but the outfield keeps Head to two.
LUCKY. Terrific short ball and it catches Head by surprise but the edge of the shoulder flies over slip for two. Brings up the 50 partnership.
Head finds another couple just forward of point.
A no-ball adds another run as Head almost edges the last ball down the leg side.

Head rocks back to a shorter ball and cuts for two.
Too full and Head sweeps powerfully behind square for four.
He cuts another single through point to finish a productive over.

Smith hits a nice drive but can’t beat mid-off.
He beats cover as he finds two to keep ticking along.

Head squirts a single off an inside edge and that’s drinks.

Smith defends and leaves the first five before working a single into the leg-side off the last.

Smith flicks a single fine for one.
SHOT. Head drops the knee and crunches the square drive as it flies for four.
BEATEN. Perfect comeback ball that straightens off the angle to beat the edge.
Head gets a couple into the vacant square leg.

Bumrah replaces Siraj from the Langer end.
FOUR! Head steps out and drives and it just evades extra cover to go to the boundary.
Tries to uppercut a short ball and is lucky not to edge but it’s a no-ball anyway.

Head pushes a single into the off-side.
Smith plays with soft hands as a thickish edge runs past gully for a couple.
He flicks nicely of the pads through mid-wicket for two.
Oh no! He misses a pull and cops a blow straight to the chest. That will hurt and he collapses but looks like he just needs to catch his breath.
He’s back up and defends the last two.
