As the service took place a sea of tributes continued to grow outside Anfield, the home of Liverpool.

As Diogo Jota’s widow and their three children grieve his sudden death in a horrific car crash last week, the scale of the financial legacy he has left behind has been revealed.

The 28-year-old Liverpool star had amassed a multimillion-dollar fortune after a sparkling career that kicked off in 2018, when he first signed to a Premier League club.

Sadly, his young life was cut short when the Lamborghini he was travelling in with his brother Andre Silva, 25, left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking near the Spanish city of Zamora on July 3.

Jota was reportedly driving back to the UK instead of flying because he had recently undergone lung surgery, and doctors had advised him not to fly.

It has been reported that he had been on his way to the port city of Santander to take a ferry to England.

The Portuguese-born player had married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso just 13 days before the tragedy.

Now, instead of a happy life together, Cardoso will have to raise their two sons, Dinis, four, Duarte, two, and their eight-month-old baby daughter Mafalda, on her own.

Jota signed with his first Premier League club, the Wolverhampton Wanderers, in 2018, where he earned $80,000 a week. Two years later, he was earning $170,000 a week with Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

Liverpool then extended his deal and included a hefty pay rise to nearly $300,000 a week. Jota was due to receive $30m for the remaining two years of his Liverpool contract, although it is not yet confirmed whether the club will honour the payment.

Jota’s soccer salary since 2018, plus performance bonuses and his work as an Esports entrepreneur and global brand ambassador, boosted his wealth to a whopping estimated $71m.

He also owned a luxury $4.5m five-bedroom, four-bathroom house in the upmarket north Liverpool suburb of Blundellsands and had a luxury car collection.

In a profile on the star, The Richest said he “left behind a financial legacy few soccer players achieve so young”.

“His business smart matched his on-field vision, he left behind a blueprint for how athletes can build wealthy and legacy beyond the pitch.”
