One of Australia’s greatest racing names has suffered a crushing blow as Anthony Cummings was informed his licence to train in NSW had been revoked by the racing authority.
Cummings, the son of legendary mentor and 12-time Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Bart Cummings, was forced to wind up his training business after it was revealed the operation was carrying a $2 million debt.
Racing NSW boss Peter V’landys told the SMH that Mr Cummings will be appealing the decision as liquidators continue to investigate his business.

The jovial Randwick trainer has been a mainstay on Sydney metropolitan tracks for decades and has a raft of Group wins to his name including 24 at the highest G1 level.
The loss of licence means Mr Cummings can not nominate horses for races in NSW as the doors to the famous Leilani LOdge remian closed.
“They said they will let me know tomorrow,’‘ Mr Cummings told News Corp on Thursday.
“The seven-day thing I’ve been told I will get an extension but I’m waiting for something official.
“The training business is trading profitably and going fine, we’ve had a few winners lately.
“But when your career is in the hands of others, it is difficult.”
