Melbourne Cup jockey Blake Shinn has posted a selfless update from his hospital bed after coming off She’s Got Pizzazz in a frightening fall at Flemington on Tuesday.

The Australian was taken to hospital in an ambulance after coming off his mount on the home straight in Race 9, two races after the Cup.

Shinn was sitting up and conscious after the nasty fall, despite fears that he had been trampled on by another horse.

Later on Tuesday night, the veteran hoop thanked everyone for their concern, but was just as worried about the horse as himself.

“Thank you all for your kind messages after my fall,” he said.

“I’ve broken my leg and will be sidelined for a bit, but I’m very grateful that She’s Got Pizzazz is OK.”

Racing aficionado Adam Hamilton lauded Shinn for his care for the horse.

“Typically Blake. Class, selfless. Speedy recovery, superstar,” he said.

Shinn was treated by paramedics on the track and could be seen blowing on the green whistle to treat the pain.

The 38-year-old is one of Australia’s most successful jockeys, having won the 2008 Melbourne Cup on Viewed as well as a host of other feature races.

Immediately after the race, She’s Got Pizzazz appeared to be unhurt and continued running to the line, although a vet report revealed the horse was “lame off fore”.

Dance To The Boom ($20) caused a huge upset to win the race, while red-hot favourite Surfin’ Bird failed to finish in the top four.

Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy’s thoughts were immediately with Shinn.

“Firstly, I just hope Blake Shinn is OK,” McEvoy told Nine.

“You don’t like to see a riderless horse after a race.”

The final race of the day was delayed slightly as a result of the ambulance on the track.

Shinn was booked to ride Windstorm, but was replaced by John Allen.

Shinn rode Vauban to sixth in the Melbourne Cup for champion trainer Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
