With the mercury yet to hit 12 degrees by 2pm AEDT, and the “feels like temperature” remaining in single digits, you had to feel for the fans at the track.

Despite the grim weather, many fans were still enjoying the day.
Perhaps an early winner was enough to lift spirits.

The Flemington track, famous for its drainage, was downgraded to a Heavy 8 shortly after 1pm.
Superstar jockey Mark Zahra continued his hot form in Melbourne with victory on Sabaj in Race 2.
There are three Group 1 races scheduled for later in the day, headlined by the Champions Mile and Champions Stakes.
