Brave racegoers have been forced to bring umbrellas and jackets as wet and wild weather hit Melbourne on Saturday.

The final day of the Flemington carnival, Champions Stakes Day, was a disaster on the weather front, with temperatures barely reaching double digits and rain tumbling down.

But despite the grim conditions, racegoers were determined to make the most of it and still flocked to Flemington in droves.

Umbrellas were essential, while jackets that are usually seen in winter were needed to combat the weather.

But it appears many fans were committed to their outfits and braved the elements without a jacket.

With the mercury yet to hit 12 degrees by 2pm AEDT, and the “feels like temperature” remaining in single digits, you had to feel for the fans at the track.

Despite the grim weather, many fans were still enjoying the day.

The Flemington track, famous for its drainage, was downgraded to a Heavy 8 shortly after 1pm.

Superstar jockey Mark Zahra continued his hot form in Melbourne with victory on Sabaj in Race 2.

There are three Group 1 races scheduled for later in the day, headlined by the Champions Mile and Champions Stakes.
