Brisbane Lions midfielder Lachie Neale’s potential move to a WA team is in jeopardy as two surprising clubs have now been tied to the embattled superstar who was considering a move back to Perth following his split with Jules Neale.

Neale, a back-to-back premiership player, is out of contract at the end of the 2026 season and had been heavily linked to West Coast and Fremantle to be closer to his children.

The 31-year-old began his career in Perth with the Dockers, where he met Jules, and the pair moved over to Queensland following his trade to the Lions.

But the mother of his two children, Piper and Freddie, has packed up and taken their kids back to Western Australia following the couple’s marriage breakdown after Lachie’s infidelity drama.

The scandal dominated headlines over the off season after news broke that Lachie had allegedly had an affair with Jules’ best friend Tess Crosley.

It now leaves the South Australia born star’s future with the Lions up in the air, with Brisbane giving their blessing for Lachie to seek a new home at the end of the year if he wants to be closer to family.

AFL.com’s lead footy journalist Cal Twomey has now reported the surprising revelation that two new clubs are in the hunt to poach the Lion.

“I think other clubs will get involved... I’m looking at Adelaide, I’m looking at St Kilda,” Twomey said on the Gettable podcast.

“Everybody is looking at Fremantle and West Coast as options - they’re obvious.

“But does he want to finish his career at a club building or a club continuing to challenge for premierships?”

The shocking news further clouds the embattled ex-captain’s footy future.

“I think we’ll see in the first couple of months where this one sits, he’s expected to be an unrestricted free agent... that allows him to get moving,” Twomey further added.

The four-time All-Australian has links to both sides, being an Adelaide local and previously played under Saints coach Ross Lyon during his time at Freo.

Despite the tumultuous off season Neale endured, the two-time Brownlow medallist shot out the gates in fine form for the Lions first match of the season at the weekend - racking up a game high 39 disposals and eight clearances in the tight loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Jules has begun to move on with her life, as the 36-year-old relocated back to her native State of WA with their two children and actively updating her social media persona.

The former couple’s two-storey, five-bedroom home in Seven Hills, Brisbane was sold at auction last month for a whopping $3.2 million as the hammer fell.
