Luckless AFL veteran Taylor Adams turns ‘sad reality’ into new career move

Sydney Swans veteran Taylor Adams has turned the “sad reality that footy doesn’t last forever” into a new career in property.
Adams has endured repeated heartbreak in recent years, missing out on Collingwood’s 2023 AFL premiership through injury before falling out of Sydney’s best side as they marched towards the 2024 grand final.
He was in the mix to be recalled for the decider when captain Callum Mills went down injured but was ultimately overlooked for selection.

Just hours later, he launched his new direction with one eye on the future.
“Knowing the sad reality that footy doesn’t last forever, off-field pursuits have always been a high priority for me,” Adams wrote.
“Through my studying endeavours, most recently a Master of Business Administration specialising in Finance, and my love for property and property investment, I’ve taken the exciting next step by joining Wellman Finance.”
The company is led by Essendon premiership player, former assistant coach and ex-board member Sean Wellman.
Adams said he will be working with first-home buyers, homeowners and investors.
“I have been fortunate enough to personally experience the process of purchasing multiple properties with the assistance of Sean and the Wellman Finance team and am grateful for the opportunity to join the team,” Adams said.
“Gaining hands-on experience in mortgage broking while still playing is an exciting challenge, and I’m looking forward to helping you purchase your next property!”
Adams’ link with the Melbourne-based company comes despite having 2025 and 2026 left to run on his contract with the Swans.
He signed a three-year deal with the club following his shock exit from Collingwood after the 2023 grand final.
The midfielder has previously detailed the “hurt” of his departure from the Pies and said he had preferred not to move.
Missing out on Sydney’s tilt at the premiership last year proved to be a case of deja vu.
But he moved on to celebrate his and partner Ellie’s wedding in November, with plenty of Swans and Magpies teammates in attendance.

Adams pre-empted Friday’s career announcement when he opened up on his goals for the year earlier this month.
“After a tough start to the year, I’ve decided now is a good time for some change,” he wrote.
“The last few years haven’t gone the way I’d hoped, and I’m the kind of person who likes to take ownership of my life.
“This year, my goals are a little different. As someone who’s always been a turbo, I’m trying to slow things down.
“More rest, less drinking, more time with loved ones, less worrying about what others think.
“Who knows where this will lead, but hopefully, it’s toward more smiles and contentment with whatever the universe has in store.”
