Matildas star Mary Fowler has made her modelling debut on the world’s fashion stage in Paris.

The 22-year-old is the first professional footballer to appear on the runway at the Le Defile L’Oreal Paris show, held overnight Perth time, at the majestic Hotel de Ville in front of more than 2500 guests.

Even though the talented player is used to fronting crowds as a key member of Australia’s national team and at Manchester City, Fowler admitted to some trepidation for her first time swapping the football pitch for the catwalk.

“While it’s a little outside of my comfort zone, the opportunity to walk alongside extraordinary women in a celebration of women’s empowerment, inclusion and sisterhood is truly inspiring,” she said earlier this month.

A few hours before her fashion debut, Fowler posted on Instagram images of a hotel room and the Eiffel Tower, with the words “Paris — excited for tomorrow”.

The Manchester City forward required a knee reconstruction and has been in a race against time to be ready for the Asian Cup early next year after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament in the FA Cup semifinal in April.

But in a boost for Australia’s hopes, she has since revealed she is on target to return to action by November.
