The 16-year-old stopped the clock at 10.35 to obliterate a record that has stood for 15 years.

The previous age-16 record at the state championships was a 10.73, set by Hugh Donovan back in 2010.

Lubenda’s performance has immediately drawn comparisons to Gout, who was on a similar trajectory at the same age.

Gout’s best performance as a 16-year-old was the 10.17 he clocked to win the national school titles in Brisbane last December.

Gout, who is still just 17, went on to compete at the world championships this year, reaching the semi-finals of the 200m in Tokyo last month.

While he and fellow Aussie speed demon Lachlan Kennedy are seen as the future of men’s sprinting in the country, Lubenda has now added his name to the mix.

Prior to Friday’s run, Lubenda’s previous personal best time was 10.42.

“Man, I feel amazing,” Lubenda told News Corp after the match.

“I was kind of hoping for a time like that, and I wasn’t thinking too much about it, but I’m really grateful.

“I had to make sure I composed myself and thought about what I had to do. My coach told me to just get into it, do what you’d normally be doing and don’t change anything, that’s about it.

“Everything went smoothly, everything went according to plan.”

Lubenda will also compete in the 200m across the weekend before turning his attention to the nationals in December.

Lubenda, who was born in Mozambique, arrived in Australia with his family in 2013 when he was four years old.

He has long set a target of running at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.

“My goal is 2032 Brisbane; I’ve got my eyes on that,” Lubenda told News Corp last year.
