Police officers allegedly punched in brawl between rival NRL fans

An NRL fan has been charged with assaulting police after a fight broke out between Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs supporters at Campbelltown on Sunday night.

Police called in reinforcements, including the dog unit, when the brawl unfolded in the stands late in the Rabbitohs’ 22-12 win over the Tigers.

One officer was allegedly punched in the head and a second punched in the face, police said.

Police confirmed two men were taken to hospital — one with suspected concussion and another with facial injuries — while two others were arrested.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with affray, assault police (two counts), and resist arrest,” NSW Police said.

“He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Campbelltown Local Court on 12 June 2025.

“A 28-year-old man was arrested for common assault and will be issued with a court attendance notice.”

Police said a total of four people were evicted while the injured officers were treated for cuts and bruising.

Wests Tigers issued a statement on Monday morning confirming its own investigation was underway.

“Once we have the full security and police reports we will act accordingly,” the club said.

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated by the club.

“We apologise to all those caught up in the in the situations, especially to the police officers (and) anyone else hurt in the events.”
