Two women charged following shocking brawl at NRL match in Sydney, leaving one knocked unconscious

Police say a 21-year-old woman was knocked unconscious while a man, also aged 21, was assaulted while trying to protect her.

Two women have been charged over their alleged involvement in a sickening fight that left one woman unconscious during an NRL match.

The woman was later taken to Concord Hospital to be treated for facial injuries.

Following an investigation, police sought to speak to four men and four women who were described as having a Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance and in their 20s.

On Wednesday, police arrested two women from the group and charged them with affray.

The women, aged 35 and 37, were granted conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on April 17.

While police previously released photos of the eight people involved, it is unclear which two women were charged.

The descriptions of the eight people are as follows:

  • A man of medium build, with black hair, black beard, black glasses, wearing a hooded jacket
  • A man of large build, with a black beard, no moustache, wearing a black and white hat, light-blue hooded jumper, black pants and black sneakers
  • A man of large build, with ear-length black hair, full black beard, wearing black shorts, white shoes, a black and white checkered jacket with a football jersey around his neck
  • A man of medium build with black hair faded at the rear, goatee-style beard, wearing a football jersey, black pants and white shoes
  • A woman of medium build, wearing a beige headscarf, black glasses, a black football jersey, black pants and a long-sleeved black shirt underneath the jersey
  • A woman of medium build, wearing a navy headscarf, black shirt, black pants, black and white sneakers
  • A woman of medium build with red hair who was wearing a white football jersey, a football scarf, blue jeans and black shoes
  • A woman of small build with mid-length black hair who was wearing a blue football jersey, blue jeans and white shoes

More than 10 people, fans of the Roosters and South Sydney, exchanged punches in a wild clash.

They were evicted from the stadium after the incident, but no injuries were reported.
