TOUCHDOWN PHILADELPHIA!

It’s a dream start for the Eagles!

They benefit from a questionable penalty call on a third down, and they get to the one-yard line on a huge catch from Jahan Dotson.

Hurts then gets the patented ‘brotherly shove’ to get over the line and give us our first score of the game!

It’s Philly 7, Chiefs 0 with 6.15 left in Q1.

Defence reigning supreme

It’s a short drive for the Chiefs as Philly’s defence successfully pressures Mahomes on third down!

Both sides feeling each other out early, here. Hurts gets another chance with reasonable field position, with the ball at Philadelphia’s own 31 yard line.

Opening drive

Philly are cooking on the opening drive - but then they get stung by a pass interference call after biting off a huge chunk! AJ Brown is the culprit.

It means the Eagles have to punt when they looked certain to score, and now the Chiefs will take over.

0-0 in the opening stages.

Kick-off!

After one final Tom Cruise intro - that included the word ‘Mission’, of course - we’re good to go!

Jalen Hurts has the ball to start proceedings. Can the Eagles get off on the right foot?

Coin toss

There’s a touching tribute for the 14 people who lost their lives in the January 1 terrorist attack in New Orleans.

When the coin gets tossed, it’s won by the Chiefs - who defer to take possession to start the second half. The Eagles will receive the ball to start the game. Let’s go!

Final preparations

‘America The Beautiful’ and ‘Star Spangled Banner’ are performed, and Trump gets both cheered and jeered when shown on screen saluting during the latter.

All is in readiness now. The Chiefs are the slightest of favourites with bookmakers as they shoot for their third straight title... but the red-hot Eagles loom large. Should be a good one!

Taylor Swift is in the building!

Travis Kelce’s girlfriend has arrived at the Superbowl.

The pop star is wearing a simple white outfit which includes an oversized blazer and knee-high boots.

Swift, who has been dating the Chiefs star for a while now, arrived in New Orleans yesterday.

She stepped out for a pre-game dinner with some of her best girlfriends, the HAIM sisters.

Teams enter

Actor Jon Hamm - of Mad Men fame - gets on the mic to introduce Kansas City!

There’s the typical mixed reaction, with plenty of boos audible, as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and co take to the turf.

Then Philly enter - with Aussie Jordan Mailata in tow - as Bradley Cooper gets on the mic to fire up the crowd! It appears the Eagles will have the edge in support for this one.

Trump in the building

Donald Trump has shaken hands with some of the Super Bowl combatants and waved to fans in New Orleans as he became the first sitting US President to attend the biggest match in US sport.

Political custom has dictated a President does not attend the event, mainly due the security arrangements required, but as we all all know Trump does things a little differently and loves soaking up the popular culture limelight.

When he arrived at the Superdome he shook hands with Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones and gestured with a closed fist to the crowd.

During his first term Trump was critical of players who declined to sing the national anthem and took a knee in protest at several racially motivated deaths that shook the US to its core. He demanded the NFL fire the players – it did not.

He was once a football franchise owner himself after buying the New Jersey Generals who played in the ill-fated United States Football League in the 1980s. He has also over the years shown an interest in acquiring the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and the then Baltimore Colts.

New Orleans parties

There’s a real mardi gras feel to the pre-match build-up!

Harry Connick Jr is on stage doing his thing, with plenty of brass as a musical backdrop in the city where jazz is so famous.

They’re set to clear the field in the coming minutes as the teams prepare to take to the turf under the dome.
