American tennis star Danielle Collins has shared a heartwarming update on the dog she rescued.

Collins, who became public enemy No.1 in Australia during the summer when she gleefully wound up a raucous home crowd, showed a wildly different side to herself in Miami.

Her tournament came to an end when she was beaten by Aryna Sabalenka on Monday, but she leaves Miami with a new friend for life.

Speaking after her win on Saturday, Collins explained how she found a dog curled up in the middle of the road after getting hit by a car.

Collins took the dog, which has since been named Crash, to an animal hospital where he remained for five days.

But in a positive update, Collins revealed she has officially adopted Crash and he is recovering well at home.

“Crash is recovering and finally out of the hospital after five days on oxygen support,” she wrote on Instagram.

“His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving. He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life.

“It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body.

“I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed. I have officially adopted him and Quincy now has a new brother!

“Once he finishes recovering he will be attending school.”

Collins had earlier explained the distressing scene when she found the dog on the side of the road.

“I was like, ‘We have to pull over.’ .. We took him out of the street,” she said last

“He’s been in the hospital now for two days. We’re hoping to adopt him and take him home.

“Right now he’s in critical condition at the animal hospital.

“If everyone can say some prayers for my new pet ... his name is Crash, because he was in a car crash.

“Please guys, send good energy to my little baby ... that would be great.”

The gesture, however, might not be enough to endear herself to the Australian public after her explosive performance at Melbourne Park earlier this year.

After beating Aiava, she cupped her hand to her ear and yelled, “How about that,” before blowing kisses to the crowd and slapping her backside.

She further wound them all up in her on-court interview, and later thanked them for the “big fat pay cheque” that would go towards her next holiday.
