Beloved Australian tennis champion Sam Stosur has gone public with exciting baby news.

Stosur announced the news on social media, publishing a short video of herself with a pram and a portable baby bassinet.

“Time to dust off the baby gear,” was the caption on the video, which featured the 41-year-old retired star with a feather duster.

“We’re so excited for the new addition to our family 👶🏻❤️ It’s my turn this time🤰🏻😜,” she wrote.

In 2020 Stosur and her partner Liz Astling became proud parents of a baby girl, Genevieve.

On that occasion, however, it was Liz who gave birth to the child.

Fans, friends and some of Australia’s biggest names in tennis were thrilled with the new announcement.

“This is amazing ❤️🙌” said Aussie Paralympic swimming legend Ellie Cole.

While tennis great Nicole Bradtke said: “So happy for you Sam , hope your feeling ok 😬 Being a mum is the best ♥️.”

Aussie doubles legend Todd Woodbridge said: “Such awesome news Sam, congrats to you and Liz ❤️❤️,” while Casey Dellacqua sent a string of love heart emojis.

Olympic gold medallist Matt Ebden said: “Huge congrats!!”

And Rennae Stubbs said: “The BABY!!!!”

The Australian Open and Tennis Australia social accounts were also quick to get around the celebrations and send their congratulations.

Retired US tennis star Lisa Raymond also said: “Congratulations Sammy! So happy for you guys 🙏❤️.”

Stosur put an an end to her glittering tennis career in 2023.

The grand slam champion won the US Open in 2011 (beating the legendary Serena Williams), and was runner-up at the French Open in 2010.

In doubles she won the Australian Open (2019), the French (2006), and the US Open twice (2005, 2021).
