Dramatic footage has emerged of the moment a Brazilian man was dragged out of the rubble of his home after he was buried alive in a landslide.

Father-of-five Adriano dos Santos was found alive under the mud and debris after two houses were crushed in the Brazilian city of Salvador on Wednesday, local time.

The 30--year-old was in his home getting an umbrella when it came down around him.

Rescue workers dragged him out of the rubble seven hours later before he was taken to hospital and treated for pelvis injuries, according to Brazilian media.

Authorities blamed the landslide and the collapse of dos Santos and his neighbour’s homes to deluges in Salvador with Saramandaia and nearby suburbs of Pernambues the hardest hit.

In fact, in the first 27 days of November, Salvador recorded over 32cm of rain - almost 22cm of that fell in the last week.

That’s compared to an average monthly precipitation of 11cm.
