The video was received by Osthessen News, who contacted local police and were able to confirm that none of the clips were created with artificial intelligence.
So how did 50 sheep find themselves in a carpark, and charge into the shop?
Their shepherd, Dieter Michler, said even he wasn’t sure how the curious incident unfolded.
Speaking to Main-Post newspaper, Mr Michler said he had been herding a flock of 500 sheep between the industrial area where the Penny supermarket is and the Sinn River.
He believes that 50 of the sheep were tempted by acorns laying on the roadside, and stopped to eat them during the crossing.
After this group lost contact with the main flock, he thinks they must have wandered into the supermarket’s carpark.
“When I arrived, they were already out of the store – and now they’re back with the flock,” Mr Michler said
He is expected to pay for the damage caused to the shop.
Social media users said Penny couldn’t have asked for better publicity.
“For Penny, (this is) a completely free advertisement and the shepherd is certainly insured for the property damage, still really funny,” one Facebook user commented on the video.
“This should be Penny’s take for advertising. The shepherd should not be liable for damages but also receive a cash gift or voucher,” another wrote.
