A little girl has been left orphaned after her parents tragically died in a scalding hotel bathtub following a night of partying to celebrate her fourth birthday.

Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37 and Ana Carolina Silva, 41, were found dead in the bathroom of a hotel in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on August 11.

The couple had spent the day drinking while celebrating their daughter’s birthday, later heading to a nightclub before checking into their Dallas Motel around 11.30pm, according to a police report.

When they failed to pick up their daughter from Mr Sagaz’s sister’s home, concerned relatives raised the alarm and reported them missing, G1 Globo reports.

Hours later, Mr Sagaz, a military officer, and Ms Silva, a nail salon owner, were found lifeless in the hotel’s bathtub by local authorities.

The water temperature had reached 50 degrees, while a heater in the room was also cranked up high.

Toxicology reports have now revealed that traces of cocaine and extremely high levels of alcohol were in their systems.

Authorities concluded that heatstroke was the cause of death, however, it was significantly compounded by the substances in their blood, which may have impaired their ability to react to the extreme heat.

“The cause of both deaths was exogenous poisoning, favouring the process of heatstroke with intense dehydration, thermal collapse, culminating in organ failure and death,” said Chief Medical Examiner Andressa Boer Fronza.

Chief of Police Felipe Simao Gomes added that they have ruled out any third-party involvement.

“These circumstances, combined with the substances found on the bodies, led the Civil Police to conclude that the cause of death was sudden and not due to third-party intervention,” Mr Simao Gomes said.

Ms Silva’s family has firmly denied claims that she was a drug user and expressed concern over possible forced ingestion or poisoning.

The couple had been together for nearly 20 years and shared one daughter.
