Florida mother allegedly leaves four children, including infant and toddler, at home to go on Carnival cruise

A US woman accused of leaving her four young children - one of them a two-month-old infant - alone at home while she embarked on a weekend cruise has been charged by police.

Miami mother Nathalie Belizaire, 29, has been arrested and charged with four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, according to NBC News.

An arrest report obtained by NBC News alleges that Belizaire “left all four minor children, including a two-month-old infant and a two-year-old child, inside the residence without adult supervision while the defendant travelled out of town aboard a Carnival Conquest cruise ship”.

The arrest came shortly after the father of the Belizaire’s youngest child said that he made contact with her after seeing her post an image of a cruise ticket purchase on Whatsapp.

He said told police that Belizaire reassured him that all four children would be dropped off with their great-grandmother while she was away.

However, police reported in the arrest statement that he called 911 after visiting her home on Saturday night, where he could see a television on through the window blinds and could hear the kids talking.

Police and firefighters quickly arrived at Belizaire’s apartment and forced open the door.

All four children were discovered hiding in the apartment’s bathroom completely free of adult supervision.

Law enforcement subsequently made contact with the children’s great-grandmother, who confirmed that Belizaire had rang and told her that she would be dropping the kids off because she was heading out of town.

However, she said Belizaire and the children never arrived.

It’s alleged Belizaire’s brother also received a text from her on Saturday night about 8pm asking if he could “check on her children”.

Police claim that repeated attempts to make contact with the mother were not answered.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Belizaire had bought a three-day cruise ticket to the Bahamas with a September 25 departure date.

Belizaire was arrested as she disembarked from the Carnival Conquest at PortMiami on Monday and was taken into custody, before facing court on Tuesday.

Her bond was set at $US10,000 with a request to maintain her distance from the four children who currently remain in foster care.

Judge Mindy Glazer was scathing during Tuesday’s hearing, while also noting her relief “nothing worse happened to these kids”.

“You cannot make this up. It says she went on a cruise and left her children home alone,” she said.

“These poor kids, four of them, were home alone for three days.

“One baby, the baby was born in July of this year. Who leaves a baby alone like that?”

Belizaire’s lawyer denied the allegations.
