Jeff Bezos: Is Amazon-sized prenup holding up billionaire’s wedding

Is the Jeff Bezos-Lauren Sanchez wedding delayed because of the need for the grandaddy of all prenups?

The couple got engaged in May last year and had a big engagement party in the November.

Given Bezos’s immense wealth – the Amazon founder is worth around $US205 billion ($A309 billion) – there are expectations that their wedding will be on a scale to confound the world, particularly given the 30-carat diamond which former TV presenter Sanchez is wearing.

But, despite rumours that they would marry in the summer, they remain unwed. A source says: “Jeff is so crazy about her that he would get married tomorrow if he could, but I hear that they are still sorting out a prenup.

“His lawyers won’t let him move ahead without it.”

Another friend says: “Everyone is wondering when there might be an invitation. The summer was the obvious time because from now on there is Oscars campaigning and Thanksgiving and it will be much harder to gather all of their famous friends and the people who would be expected to go.

“So it’s kind of a puzzle why it hasn’t happened yet.”

But the friend added: “You won’t meet a more loved-up couple so it’s not down to anything to do with that.”

Preparing a prenuptial agreement, which would protect Bezos’s finances in the event of a split, will be a big undertaking, covering assets on either side, right down to motor cars and jewellery.

A spokesperson for Sanchez says that there is “no story” involving a prenup.

News of their romance broke in 2019, around the time that Bezos announced he was divorcing his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie Scott, with whom he has four children.

Sanchez divorced her husband, agent Patrick Whitesell. They have two children and she has a son from a relationship with former NFL star Tony Gonzalez.
