A baby girl has been born after miraculously surviving a 27-meter tower block fall that killed her mother.

Little Posie was delivered five weeks premature in hospital and is in “critical care” after Emma Atkinson died when she plunged from the tenth floor on Tuesday.

The mother of five, who was in her 30s, had named her girl just a few weeks ago.

The tiny newborn was pictured on Wednesday in her hospital cot with tubes in her mouth and nose as her sister Demi lovingly placed her hand on her chest.

The caption read: “Our perfect beautiful Posie fighting for her mummy – the last bit of our mama to treasure forever she’s gonna do this for you mum.”

Only last month, she had put up a picture on her Facebook page of herself in front of a mirror proudly showing off her bump.

The expectant mother in that post confirmed the baby was due in ten weeks, writing: “It’s a girl, I couldn’t be happier.”

Grieving Demi on Wednesday broke the news on Facebook of Posie’s arrival and then paid a heartfelt tribute.

She said: “I need you so much, Mum, please come home. I just wanna kiss you and hear your voice. I love you more than life, Mum.”

Demi added in another post: “You were so loved, Mum. I just wish you knew that.”

On Wednesday, balloons and flowers were left near where Emma died – with one poignant spray having five butterflies attached to it.

One floral tribute read: “Emma, you will be missed. Love Mark, Dawn and fam xxx.”

Another read: “Emma. RIP my girl. Love ya lots. Donna, Lee and kids xxx.”

Friends and family have also flooded social media in memory of Emma with them describing her as a ‘beautiful’ mother.

Zoe White wrote: “I can’t believe it. I’ve been in denial all day. I am broke, one of the best.”

“I honestly can’t put into words the pain in my heart for you and your kids it’s just devastating. My girl, you are truly loved, rest in peace beautiful one x.”

Childhood friend Roxy Rooks said the news was “just devastating beyond words”.

West Yorkshire Police have stated: “Police were contacted on Tuesday at 10.24 by the ambulance service who had been called to an incident where a woman had fallen from height at Shakespeare Towers.”

“The woman died at the scene as result of her injuries.”

There were no suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been informed.

“The woman was in the late stage of pregnancy and her baby was delivered in hospital after the incident and is receiving critical care.”

The 99 flats in the Shakespeare Towers block were built in 1969. Owned by Leeds City Council, they have recently been refurbished.

The authority on Wednesday declined to comment, referring all requests to police.
